New Music

Lately I have been noticing that some of the newer bands are really getting better. There was a time a few years back that the new music wasn’t that great. It didn’t catch my ear, and it seemed to all blend in together.

Two bands that have really caught my ear lately are Hoots and Hellmouth and Back Door Slam. Hoots is kind or a combination of bluegrass, folk, gospel and jam band. Rumor has it they are working on their second album. Back Door Slam is a blues/rock band. Both groups are great musicians and can really write a great song. Hoots and Hellmouth was the artist to watch last July for WXPN, while Back Door Slam is the current Artist to Watch. The XPN reference is totally a coincidence, but they are a great outlet for new music.

There are also some great local bands in this area including Ledbetter Heights and Green Eggs. Now Green Eggs is more of a cover band, but they sound like they wrote the songs – they are that connected to the music.

Support local music. Check them out, and buy their albums. That support is what brings new songs and artists to the air waves.
