Summer Touring
I read this quote on the recent Rolling Stone Features Blog:
“I have no problem playing ‘Margaritaville’ for the 700,000th time,” says Jimmy Buffett, who’s hewing to tradition by breaking out his “Big Eight” hits. “There are some songs you gotta do or get killed.”
How awesome is that? Those artists that haven’t released a chart topping album in a while and are still touring; we want to hear your old hits. That’s what we love about you, and that’s what we want to hear. Sure, throw some new tracks in just to keep it interesting for you and the band, but don’t cut the songs that made your career.
There have been times I have been backstage at concerts or saw an interview with artists who have, well, been around for a while, who refuse to do the old stuff. Some of these artists aren’t all that old, their own their 3rd or 4th album, some are on their 2nd!
If you make it big, please remember those hits that got you there. They were hits for a reason.
