Dynamics

I’m definitely going to be talking about dynamics on recordings and mastered projects.  Dynamics, or the change in volume from the softest point to the loudest point in a song or a recording, are so important in music.  Yet, in most of music today it is the first thing to go, in order to make your recording loud and “stand out” on the “radio.”  The lack of dynamics in today’s music drives me up a wall further than about anything else people are doing today.

Anyway, I will be showing you why you should leave your volume changes in your music, but there is a website a colleague of mine showed me, and I wanted to bring it to your attention, Turn me Up.  Turn me Up is a non-profit organization that is trying to do the same thing that I’m talking about – putting dynamics back into music.  So check it out.
