Looking at Sound

If you are in a recording situation, any recording situation, here’s a hint. You only have sound to paint a picture for someone who isn’t there. You need to remember everything about the event you are about to record. Stop. Look around. Listen around. What makes this situation special/different that someone else would need/want to know? Think about it. Then look into your bag of tools to capture that sound and then do it! It doesn’t matter if you are recording a concert, a theatrical event, an interview or nat sound. Whatever you are recording try this thought process.
